By using Privlio, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them. If you don't agree, don't use Privlio.
1. The service
Privlio is a local-first, private contact manager with a PIN-protected vault, published by Adapting Services Limited, Ontario, Canada ("Privlio", "we", "us"). The app runs entirely on your device. We operate no servers and do not host, transmit, or store your contacts — everything you create stays in local storage on your device.
2. No account, your device
Privlio requires no account, email, or sign-up — you simply install the app and start adding contacts. Because your data lives only on your device, you are responsible for the security of that device and for any PIN you set to protect your vault. If you lose your device without an exported backup, your data cannot be recovered. This is the trade-off for keeping your network entirely off the cloud.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Privlio. If you are under 18, you must have parental consent.
3. Acceptable use
Privlio runs on your own device, but you still agree not to:
- Use the app to violate any applicable law or regulation
- Reverse engineer, tamper with, or attempt to circumvent the app's protections except as permitted by law
- Redistribute, resell, or repackage the app without our permission
- Use the app in any way that infringes the rights of others
We reserve the right to discontinue providing the app or updates to anyone who violates these terms.
4. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy (available at privlio.ca/privacy) describes how we handle data. The key point: your contacts, notes, and vault stay on your device — we never receive them and cannot read them. You own your data, in full.
5. Pricing and payments
Privlio offers a free tier and optional paid upgrades. Any purchases are processed by the app store you download from (the Apple App Store or Google Play) under their terms, billing, and refund policies. Subscriptions renew and can be cancelled through your app store account. We may change pricing for future purchases with reasonable notice.
6. Data loss warning
Important: Because Privlio stores everything locally and we keep no copy, your data cannot be recovered by us if:
- You delete the app or clear its data without first exporting a backup
- You lose, reset, or damage your device without a backup
- You forget the PIN protecting your vault
We strongly recommend exporting a JSON backup regularly (Settings → Export contacts) and storing it somewhere safe. We are not responsible for data loss resulting from device loss, deletion, or a forgotten PIN.
7. Intellectual property
Privlio and its underlying software are owned by Adapting Services Limited. You retain ownership of all content you create in Privlio. Because that content never leaves your device, you grant us no licence to it — we simply provide the app you use to manage it.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Privlio is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including data loss, service interruptions, or security breaches beyond our control.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms or the app shall not exceed the amount you paid for Privlio in the 12 months preceding the claim.
9. Termination
You may stop using Privlio at any time by deleting your data (Settings → Danger zone) and uninstalling the app. Because we hold no account and no copy of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our end. We may discontinue the app or stop providing updates at our discretion.
10. Changes to terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will post material changes within the app or on this page at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario, Canada.
